Kids in Action
I know we all have kids that we’re proud of, but . . . .
For those of you who have not been involved with this
from the get-go, Riley, my nine-year-old, and his buddy, Macy Molsbee, built
a cow dog box and took it to the San Antonio Livestock Show this past
weekend. It is made of 10 gauge diamond plate steel, and is designed
to haul dogs in the back of a pickup. It has a built in water box, two
dog kennels with air vents, and four storage compartments.
The livestock division at San Antonio is divided into
three or four different classes. Riley and Macy took fourth in their
class. They got a gift certificate to AirGas for that. AirGas is
a welding supply company. They got beat by a portable equine dentistry
rack for vets that was hydraulic powered, and a USDA sponsored portable
dipping vat that took up one whole end of the barn.
There were over 700 projects in San Antonio including
trailers, tractors, chutes, gates, and all things wildlife, most of which
were built, and shown, by high school students. ALL were eligible for
a showmanship award. Five awards were given. Macy’s older sister
got the 1st place showmanship award and these guys took fifth!!!
Morgan also took 1st in the wildlife class with her project.
She’s 10. Chris and I hauled back all the awards yesterday – it filled
the back of our truck!!
Chris and I are very proud of all our Alpine kids!!
We take our dog box to San Angelo tomorrow to see what
we can do there.
